OUR HISTORY

Sentinel Security Service was established in 1967 by Colonel Dominick R. Capello, a retired Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. Col. Capello recognized the need for greater professionalism and attention to detail in the private security services field. We are the oldest continually operating private security firm in New Jersey, totally dedicated to providing each client with the peace of mind that comes from working with highly trained, tightly supervised, professionally managed security officers. Colonel Capello’s family remains actively involved in the business, ensuring that his vision and standards continue.

This mission drives our management philosophy of delivering a level of service well beyond client expectations. We consistently achieve our goals through three essential components: highly selective employee screening and selection, rigorous training and supervision, and our proactive management approach to all our clients’ needs and requirements.

MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY AND COMPANY ABILITIES

Responsive management. Our field managers are on duty during every shift, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. They supervise each security officer in the field, and the manager will respond to your calls. Additionally, you can expect our senior operations staff to make frequent visits to your site.

FREE SECURITY SURVEYS. Our security professionals will conduct a complete site survey to evaluate all areas of your site and operation that would benefit from the presence of a trained security officer.
CENTRALIZED COMPUTER SCHEDULING. Shift information and duty assignments are programmed centrally to ensure maximum reliability and responsiveness.
RISK MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS. Our security professionals are available to conduct ongoing risk management analysis as your specific needs and requirements change, and they will ensure that your security requirements are being fully met.
EMERGENCY NEEDS. Should you require additional security support for any reason, call on Sentinel Security Service to provide security officers on an as-needed basis.

OUR EMPLOYEES

All security officer candidates at Sentinel Security Service must demonstrate an extremely high level of qualifications and ability. Criteria include verifiable and credible prior work experience, unblemished personal records, and good communication skills. All military veterans must demonstrate that they have separated from their respective service with an honorable discharge.

OUR TRAINING

All our security officers undergo rigorous training in strict compliance with New Jersey State Police requirements according to the Security Officers Registration Act (SORA). As part of our fundamental security skills program, Sentinel Security Service provides all trainees with a minimum of 24 hours of Basic Security Officer training. This professional program includes all basic and essential concepts, rules and philosophies of private security including emergency situation management and many other specialized security subjects.

We fortify our employees’ security training and skill sets with:

Classroom training at our corporate offices in Bergen County. This comprehensive instruction covers all the security concepts necessary to the Basic Security Officers’ education.
Site-specific training – We understand that each client facility has unique security needs. Therefore, we also provide on-site training for each assignment as required. On-site training may include property access control and monitoring, touring and patrolling, switchboard/communications operation, and emergency and evacuation response and procedures. This ensures that your assigned security officers are highly prepared to meet your facility’s specific needs.
Field training – Our commitment to our clients’ security extends to ongoing training and frequent on-the-job assessments to ensure that your security officers possess complete and current knowledge for their particular assignments and responsibilities. We strive to keep them aware of emerging security situations or concerns, whether these are at the client’s facilities or in the surrounding area.

OUR SORA TRAINING PROGRAM

Sentinel Security Service offers training and certification programs to all qualified SORA applicants seeking employment within the private security field. Our SORA instructors are all certified and licensed by the New Jersey State Police.
